Production: Final Evaluation

Image
My final production at the University for the Creative Arts in Television Production has been completed.  The journey through the last three years has taught me so much about the Television and Film Industry that I can confidently reflect on my Final Major Production Young & Famous, knowing that I have become stronger in my skills as a Producer for the TV Industry. This final review will focus mainly on the roles that I completed throughout this final year, of Producer & Writer for Young & Famous. What Worked?  All together as a team we collaborated really well together. As part of my role as Producer, it was incredibly important that I collaborated with the Director and DOP to ensure every aspect of the pilot was thought about and planned for.  I collaborated well with the cast and ensured I kept them up to date with every stage of the production to keep them involved and passionate about the project. When on set I ...

Production: Producer's Role During Post-Production Research

As I am the Producer for Young & Famous and I am not editing the project, I understand that the Producer takes a step back from the post-production phase.  I have researched into what the Producer's role is throughout this stage as I was unsure if what I was doing was enough.  According to the Creative Skill set; a Producer's role throughout Post - Production is to keep in regular contact with the Director and editor, but to let them harness the footage and create the film.  As the Producer, this is their time to deal with all the finances of the film such as paying actors, marketing and liaising with the distribution companies to sell or exhibit the film and confirming edit or sound changes.  As we are not going to be distributing Young & Famous to big companies to sell, I focused on paying all of the actors their expenses and regularly coming into the edit suit for review meetings with Simon and Andrea.  I...

Production: Screening Test

Once all the films were in their final stages of the edit, we all exported them and did a class viewing.  We went first and it was quite daunting to have the others in the class watch our work, as so far only we had seen it all the way through. However,t his went well and was good to get other’s feedback as to what they liked about it and what could be improved. - They liked our casting - The story flowed well - They laughed when they were meant to - They liked our character Betty - Felt it was light-hearted and enjoyable to watch - Need to put the binoculars scene in twice and to blur that more - Need to put a writers and editors credit in the credits It was good to see the other projects as well to compare and contrast our own with theirs to make further improvements.   Each group had a unique style of film and a fluid story that made the viewing enjoyable.   There was a range of skills exposed in each film and I f...

Production: Reshoot

Image
After several tutorials and rough to fine cuts, we decided that we needed to reshoot 2 scenes due to their being too much of the actors backs in the shots and not enough of their faces. Stories are told through faces, therefore its very important that we see these the most.   I arranged for the reshoot to happen on Monday 30th April and we had secured all of the equipment and actors for this day.  I created a schedule and risk assessment ready to get everything shot that was needed. We were confident in knowing what we wanted to shoot and when because we had completed a test shoot for our reshoot in order to save valuable time on set. After checking our budget and deciding we had enough to have all the cast needed back for the reshoot, I planned which order we would be filming in.   Everything was set and ready for the Monday morning.  At half 7 on the day of the shoot, I got a phone call from our Jordan Hamsey saying he ...

Production: Tutorial Notes

Now we are in the edit phase, we have had regular tutorials with Simon and Andrea who have given us feedback on how to improve Young & Famous.   As the Producer I wrote all the notes down for the editor and helped create a plan to resolve any issues there may be.  Our first was on the 21st March: Simon Feedback Tutorial – 21/03/18 Need to see Marie on scene 1 after the Boss says 'Marie' Move to Marie quicker after 'sweets are natural' Need to see Dean when Annie says 'are you listening to me?' Scene 3 Tighter shot of Annie & Dean reading newspaper so it cuts nicer Cut straight to Young & Famous. Next bit is too slow Cut just before Annie arrives in frame with Bob Bring Dean in quicker for 'grow up' See more of Bob Possibly see what Annie is doing on her iPad Need to see Dean's cu when we see Betty's See Dean strangle on the CU See Dean's cu earlier in hallway with Betty Possibly use his reverse when seeing...
