Pre-Production: Creating the Budget
As we are taking Young & Famous into major production we need to establish a budget to be able to make it work. As producer this is my responsibility to come up with a comfortable budget that will allow us to get everything we need to make the production good however as we are students and we don't have a lot of money, it has to be affordable.
So far we have agreed on submitting £200 each into the budget making the total of £600 for our 15 minute film. I have broken this down into sections where the money will be needed.
Travel for Cast £180
Props £150
Costume £70
Set £150
Food and Drink £50
These are subject to change as we don't know how much we will actually need for each element listed above.
*Since this was last created we have edited the budget to better suit what we need the money for.
Travel: £370
As we are funding our actor’s travel expenses for the shoot, we are budgeting the most for this category. To combat how much we fund, we have advertised where we would like the actors to be based. We will also put a cap on how much each person will get for travel per day, to ensure we don’t fall into any traps in terms of our actors saying they live in Kent, but at the time of filming be in another place such as Scotland for example. As Annie & Dean will be on set everyday for the 5 day shoot, they will have the most travel expenses out of all the other characters. Depending on where the
actor’s playing Annie & Dean are travelling from will depend on their travel expense cap.
Props: £150
Our production requires quite a few props, which can be found on the Props List Page, and we have budgeted a fairly large amount to make sure that we don’t lose out on production values by not being able to afford believable, realistic props.
Costume: £30
We aim to get our actors to bring a selection of their own clothes and we will be able to pick which suits best. If there isn’t something from their own wardrobe that we like we will be able to shop in charity shops for something more suitable. As the characters are realistic and believable there won’t be too much of an issue
with costumes.
Food: £50
We are also providing food for our actors whilst on set as we aren’t able to pay them a proper wage. We aim to spend no more than £50 for the week on food and we will shop at cheaper stores such as Aldi & Lidl. We will provide a daily buffet so that we don’t run out of food and have to spend more throughout the week on something that isn’t as necessary as Travel costs or Props for our production.
If we have any budget left over we will evenly distribute it back to ourselves within the group… Or we will have a wrap party!
