Pre-Production: Channel Research

As Young & Famous is a sitcom, it is important to research the best channel to broadcast on.

Originally Young and Famous could have easily fit into the channel 'Gold' or 'W' as they feature many British Sitcoms on a daily basis, however they are repeats of shows that have been broadcast previously from other channels. They tend to broadcast old TV sitcoms such as Fawlty Towers, My Family and Only Fools and Horses to name a few.

The channel 'W' launched in 2008 and was formerly known as 'Watch' before a re-brand in 2016. It hosts a variety of shows both comedy sitcoms as well as factual entertainment and therefore could be a huge potential for broadcasting Young & Famous on. However, as this channel does repeats of programmes and their comedy tends to be shown after the 'watershed', the audience we are aiming for probably wouldn't watch.  For this reason we have chosen not to broadcast Young & Famous with 'W'.

The channel 'Gold' launched in 1992 as 'UK Gold' before splitting its programmes between 'Gold' and 'Watch' in 2008. They mainly show comedy programmes that are 'old classics' such as One Foot In The Grave, Keeping Up Appearances and Fawlty Towers. As Young & Famous is based around modern topics such as new technology and becoming famous, it may not be best suited to be broadcast on 'Gold', despite having older characters that the programme is centred on.

Through further research into the British Sitcoms that are broadcasted on the channels above, it's been discovered that the majority of them were originally broadcast on BBC One. Not only does this include the dated programs such as My Family, Blackadder and Porridge but they also broadcast up to date and new shows such as Outnumbered, Mrs Brown's Boys and Miranda. Due to the nature of Young & Famous, we decided that BBC One would be the best channel to broadcast to because it takes inspiration from a variety of shows previously shown by BBC One and takes a modern twist on some of the great comedy classics that are loved by large audiences. As our characters are older, it is likely that the show will appeal to many BBC One watchers of a similar age as it will be relatable not only for them but the whole family will be able to find resemblances that they can attach themselves to.  For these reasons, we have decided to broadcast Young & Famous to BBC One.
