Pre-Production: Audition Days & Casting Pages

The days of the auditions were incredibly successful.  Although we had a few no-shows, the actors that did arrive were both talented and friendly which meant that we had a good selection to choose from for a variety of roles.

To make the actors feel comfortable and relaxed, questions about them were asked and a casual conversation was started. This was done to see how they were as people, and to scope out whether they would be fun to work with, which is really important for this show. Then, as explained to the talent, a script read through was done to see how the actors portrayed the characters, and generally to see their skill in acting. This was critical, as the way the actors presented the characters would affect the show when shooting, and the characters are really significant in telling the story of the show. Then, after a couple of script reads, improv scenarios were carried out. The purpose of these were to see how the actors reacted to improv, and to see how well they knew the characters while also identifying what they add to the characters. These were successful as it gave the actors a chance to express their thoughts on the characters, and in turn that aided the overall casting decisions that were made.

The audition days were split into two; 13th November & 14th November.
On Mon 13th Nov, there were originally 22 actors scheduled to come in and audition, however a few contacted before hand with the news that they couldn’t make it, which is to be expected. This meant 19 actors were scheduled to have auditions on this day.

On Tues 14th Nov, there were originally 14 actors scheduled to come in and audition, however a few contacted before hand, similar to the previous day, and said they couldn’t make it. This meant 11 actors were scheduled to have auditions on this day.

On the day, the actors were given an audition form to sign. The purpose of this was to make sure the actors were available during the potential dates of shooting, along with their transport, location, phone number and email address. They were also told about the payment and travel expenses during the shooting period.

Overall, the auditions were successful and the majority of the characters have been cast.

The casting pages created for the Pre-Production Book have more details on who we have cast and our reasons for this as well.
