Pre-Production: TV Inspirations

Young & Famous has been inspired through many different TV shows such as: 
  • Terry & June
  • Gavin & Stacey
  • Mrs Brown's Boys
  • Outnumbered
  • My Family

Terry & June

Similar to Young & Famous, Terry and June shows many comparisons to the characters Annie & Dean from our Sitcom. 
Both Male characters are the driving force of wanting to achieve their dreams, for Terry its getting a job on the "top floor" within his company whereas for Dean it is getting his 15 minutes of fame in competition to his wife.  

 Likewise to Terry and June, Young & Famous involves a happily married middle class couple which is different to the usual sitcom which is based around conflict for comedy. We have decided to make them happily married but competitive against each other to give the audience a reason to tune in every week.  It is important to our story to have the competition to highlight the crazy schemes they come up with to achieve their 15 minutes of fame. 

 Gavin & Stacey

 We would like to take the comedy from Gavin and Stacey and incorporate something similar within Young & Famous.  The humour in Gavin and Stacey is very dry, witty and forthright which we believe really defines British comedy. 


Mrs Brown's Boys

 We would like to take the relationship between Mrs Brown and her neighbours and incorporate it within Young & Famous as the neighbours allow for further story and can be used as the source of entertainment for audiences in how they interact with the protagonist. 

 The character Winnie in Mrs Brown's Boys is similar to our character Claire as they both often come over to the protagonists house to divulge a drama and seek consonance and advice.  These dramas can end up becoming the main reasons for Annie & Dean's schemes to get their 15 minutes of fame.  
Outnumbered
We have taken inspiration from the storyline of the parents trying to survive their children by swapping this over to Annie & Dean's children and grandchildren trying to survive Annie & Dean's antics to become famous. 

 Their comedy is similar to the style that we would like to conform to as it is dry and witty similar to Gavin & Stacey. 
My Family

 The location in which My Family is set is something we would like to try out.  My Family is mainly set in the character's Ben and Susan's home which is a fairly big and open setting.  We would like to find something similar for this to allow the story to flow around the house smoothly permitting us to use the space to our advantage when shooting the episode. 

 We also like the relationship between the characters and would like to take inspiration from their banter and combine this with our characters Annie & Dean.  

 In particular for our character Annie, we would like to have certain traits from My Family's Susan in how she reacts around her children and grandchildren.  She always wants to impress them and highlight that she is worthy of their attention which is similar to Susan's character. 
Overall, we will combine all of these inspirations into our TV Show to ensure that we create the best sitcom we can.

Fiction Adaptation: "Being British" by Deanna Rodger

I have chosen to adapt the poem " Being British " by Deanna Rodger.  From my understanding of the poem, it is about the challenges she has faced regarding interracial stereotyping and the struggle to be accepted as a British Citizen of natural birth.  Deanna is a spoken word poet and an international performer. Production: Producer's Role During Post-Production Research

As I am the Producer for Young & Famous and I am not editing the project, I understand that the Producer takes a step back from the post-production phase.  I have researched into what the Producer's role is throughout this stage as I was unsure if what I was doing was enough.  According to the Creative Skill set; a Producer's role throughout Post - Production is to keep in regular contact with the Director and editor, but to let them harness the footage and create the film.  As the Producer, this is their time to deal with all the finances of the film such as paying actors, marketing and liaising with the distribution companies to sell or exhibit the film and confirming edit or sound changes.  As we are not going to be distributing Young & Famous to big companies to sell, I focused on paying all of the actors their expenses and regularly coming into the edit suit for review meetings with Simon and Andrea.  I...
