Pre-Production: Group Meeting #3

We met up for our 3rd production meeting and we decided to prioritise our order of workings in terms of the deadlines that are approaching.  We decided to work on our pitch for the 17th October first and embellish what we create for our pre-production book.

We have decided that for our pitch we will include a minimum of the items below and divide them up between us:

Synopsis: All
Character Profiles: Becca
Branding: Nisserin
Channel: Laura
Mood Boards: All
Location Ideas: Laura
Credit Format: Nisserin
Advertising: All
Film Inspiration: Laura
Audience: Becca

We have divided this as fairly as possible in terms of what each of our individual roles require of us and also how big the tasks are to complete.

We set ourselves an end of day goal to ensure that we were on track for completing the best possible amount for what we felt was achievable.

End of Day Aims:

  • Synopsis for Pitch
  • Create a Production Company name and design ideas
  • Create a Google Drive to allow us to share all of our work

Creating a Production Company

We decided that we would base our production company around the genre of comedy as we feel it is the most appropriate for what we are creating.

Through researching production companies, we discovered that the average ending for a company name is Productions, Studios or Entertainment

We then thought about just comedy based production companies and recognised that they didn't necessarily all end in those stereotypical names, therefore we decided to be creative using our initials to form a company name.

We took B, L & N from each of our names and formed a comedy based name out if those initials. We came up with:

"Big Laughs Network"

For our branding, we though about having some wind up teeth chatter across the screen and 'eat' the production name.  Nisserin is going to be in charge of the design for this and create an animated version for us to play at the beginning of our episode.

Synopsis of Story

"Young & Famous"
(working title)

We have changed the title of our sitcom to Young & Famous as we think it clearly outlines what our story is and is also an ironic comment to what our characters Annie & Dean believe they are, or wish to be.

To create our synopsis, we worked collaboratively to ensure that we have thought of as many elements of our story as possible that we will be able to put into our pitch to give a greater understanding of what our story is about.  Here is what we have come up with:

"In the quiet village of Farling Bay, Annie & Dean struggle to adjust to their new retired lifestyle; causing them to search for their 15 minutes of fame in their spare time. According to their 3 grandchildren, Annie & Dean's behaviour is not suitable for their age; Annie is often found learning the latest trends and Dean's crazy schemes always end up with him in trouble.  As they are considered the centre of the community, they often use their neighbours constant dramas to their advantage, in their hunt for fame."

Following this, we made some further developments to the story through characters and location as well as plot to improve it.

  • We have moved the location from a suburban town to a village.  We have done this because we believe we can make it a much more community based sit com which will help us to create storylines for Annie & Dean to attempt to reach their 15 minutes of fame with.  We have created the name of Farlington Bay which we have pictured as a Kent coastline village.
  • Annie & Dean often hold village meetings in the community centre at Farlington Bay.  They will often use these meetings as a chance to create an opportunity for 15 minutes of fame.
  • They want to be famous because they feel their children are ashamed of them as both Marie and Brian are successful business owners. By becoming famous, they are able to seek the attention of their children.
  • Brian, is the owner of the village's local pub.  It is very successful and often has reviews in the newspaper from tourists coming to try the cuisine.
  • Marie is editor of a leading fashion magasine and rarely has time to see  her parents.
  • Due to their children's success, it means that Annie & Dean are often left to look after their grandchildren.
  • The Village isn't quite up to date and the villagers often find Annie's antics odd as she is always keeping up with the latest trends, in particular fashion trends that are far too young for her.
Creating the Google Drive

We have decided that it would be pro-active to create a Google Drive to enable us to access all the work that each of us are doing towards the project.  I created the account using our production company name and within the Google Drive, I created folders to help us organise our work clearly.

Following this, we have organised a rough plan of who will be doing what towards our Pre-Production Book which will help us construct a learning agreement.

We will work hard to set ourselves deadlines to get our tasks done and make sure to support each other throughout the process.
