Professional Practice: Placement Day 4
Today I was solely committed to being a researcher for First Dates Hotel and looking for magicians for a new children's show. I mainly looked for hotels as this was more urgent.
I worked under Margherita for this and she verbally briefed me on what kind of hotels to look for and where to look for them. She gave me a region in Europe to look and I had to catalogue any hotel that I thought would be suitable. The brief was that it had to be available for the whole of September; have a minimum of 11 rooms and a maximum of 30; it needed to have a restaurant, swimming pool and gardens; the hotel needed to be far enough away from any large main roads and I had to check flight paths to see if there was likely to be any noise issues when recording sound. Not only all of these things, but the hotel also had to look small and intimate on the outside and modern and romantic on the inside.
When I started to produce my catalogue, I began by putting lots of pictures in it to show what it was like and bullet pointing good and bad things about using the hotel. The document was put on the shared drive and Margherita was able to access it and give me some pointers. She helped me by asking me to take out the pictures and just put a link to their website and a contact number instead. This is how to research properly. Below is a picture that contains my "before and after" of how I was cataloguing everything. This is only an example of what I collected in hotel research, the document ended up being quite large!
By the end of the day, I had received good feedback from Margherita and she found a hotel from my document that she was very interested in. She was going to pursue it further in the hope that it could be the hotel that they go for. I enjoyed my time learning how to be a researcher as its not really something I have ever done before. I have researched topics and companies before to do with our university projects however I have never had to research on such a wide scale, looking for something very specific. This was a fantastic experience and I'm really pleased I could help Twenty Twenty with their search for the next hotel.
I then moved on to researching magicians for Helen. I did exactly the same as I did for First Dates Hotel however I included a picture of what the magicians looked like. This was important because the people need to look the part for the children's show.
