Professional Practice: Placement Day 2

For my second day working with Twenty Twenty, I was given the task of cataloguing every award that Twenty Twenty had received and been nominated for, so that they could update their website with the most recent ones.  I was supposed to ring round to the different companies once I had finished identifying all of the ones on the system, however I was then asked to become a researcher for First Dates Hotel.  Before I discuss this, below is a spreadsheet with all of the awards Twenty Twenty has gathered.  I created a spreadsheet to make it clear and concise and was praised on this by the Production Assistant.

Once I had completed this, an Executive Producer for Drama introduced herself as Sharon and we went and had a meeting together about who she was and what she does and vice versa.  Sharon was the producer for Waterloo Road for many series and has recently moved companies to work with Twenty Twenty.  She gave me some really good advice regarding how important networking is and how through doing so, got her her first professional job role in the industry.  Sharon currently has a script developed and it is with a commissioner within the BBC and she has given me her email address to get in touch for updates on this script and whether there would be any opportunities for a job role on the project.

Soon after this, I began researching numerous hotels across Europe for the second series of First Dates Hotel.  Similarly to the Award listings, I needed to create a data base of the hotels to send across to Margherita who was leading the research for this show.  The hotels had to be to a certain style for the show and this was, small, traditional exterior but modern and stylish interior.  There had to be a minimum of 11 rooms but a maximum of around 30 to avoid it becoming too expensive.  There had to be a restaurant, swimming pool and gardens within the grounds of the hotel and the hotel itself needed to be a minimum of 4 stars.  This research became an ongoing task that will continue over a few days of my placement.

To finish the day off, Danny and I had to prepare a small party style gathering to toast one of the Executive Producers of Twenty Twenty leaving.  We had champagne and the Exec's favourite nibbles and this was a great chance to get talking to people that I hadn't before in a non-working environment.  This was really useful as I got to get to know the others and they got to know me, helping me to feel more comfortable in the environment.
