Professional Practice: Placement Day 1
On my first day at Twenty Twenty TV, I was introduced to Kirsty. Kirsty is the Production Manager at Twenty Twenty and she is who I will be reporting to throughout my two weeks working with the company. I also met Danny, the Production Assistant at Twenty Twenty and I will be working closely along side him throughout the duration of my placement.
To start with I had to complete three courses in order to work with the company. These courses were a DSM course which allowed me to understand the importance of confidentiality within the workplace and the appropriate conducts to abide by. I was also asked to complete two health and safety courses. One of these I have obtained a certificate in Health and Safety for Broadcast Television and Film.
I received some excellent advice from Danny, which was to get as much work experience as possible as employers are more likely to go with the person with the most experience, over the person who has a degree with little or no experience. He recommended that when I get back to Uni I should liaise with Laura to see about getting more work experience throughout the summer and third year to build up my portfolio more.
I was invited by the Development Team to an ideas meeting where they were pitching to each other new ideas for a TV show. Twenty Twenty deals mainly with factual entertainment programmes which means the audience needs to gain some knowledge from watching the programmes or series.
They were looking for ideas that would be of a similar context to Garathe Malone's The Choir as it was a huge success. One of the ideas that came up was about Martial Arts and they were struggling to think of contributors. I got up the courage to suggest someone who I thought could be good as a contributor and that is JKS. They are a Karate organisation that I used to belong to and often have Japanese instructors come over to England to grade students and teach masterclasses etc. I am pleased that I spoke up because they seemed to be impressed with the suggestion and wanted to research into it further.
The main idea to come out of the meeting was about creating Historical Re-enactments that would entertain and educate people about small local towns that audience can relate to. I believe that this idea could very possibly be made in the near future and they have started work developing it into a show.
To finish the day, I had to organise multiple CVs for Casting Manager interviews for First Dates into a folder ready for Tuesday Morning. I had to read from Danny's calendar when each person's interview was scheduled and order them correctly, writing what room the interview was to take place in, what time their interview was and make note of any holiday the candidate had booked.
Overall, I had an amazing first day and am really looking forward to the rest of my placement.
