Professional & Critical Practice: Placement Option
I have chosen to do a placement for this unit as I think it will help me to further improve my knowledge and skill in the TV industry. I also think this will help to build my contacts within the industry and hopefully improve my prospects at finding a job after university has finished.
I have decided to do my placement at the Twenty Twenty Studios in London.
Twenty Twenty TV has been making television programs for global audiences since 1982. They have been recognised and awarded for many of their programs the studios pride themselves for their originality and innovation when it comes to making television programs.
A selection of the shows they have made are:
First Dates -
This is in its 4th series of production and has been running since 2013. This show is about two strangers meeting for the first time at a restaurant where they will have a date and decide at the end if they are going to see each other again. The show is filmed using 40 remote control cameras that are situated all around the restaurant. There is a separate booth where the couple is able to go after their date and they are asked about how they think the date went and whether they will meet again. This show is distributed by Warner Bros and broadcast by Channel 4.

This is a documentary about the UK's richest young adults and how they value their money. The show follows these people around on their shopping spree's and finds out what their 'loose change' will get them. For some, this can be a top spec Range Rover that they can quite easily pay in full. The show is designed to be able to give the ordinary working audiences, a look into these rich peoples lives and how they chose to spend their time and money. It also allows them to understand how they got to their financial position and what it means to them. This show is distributed by Warner Bros and broadcast by Channel 4.
Gareth Malone -
Gareth Malone has a lot of programs being made to do with Choirs at Twenty Twenty TV. He has had shows commissioned such as Gareth Malone's Great Choir Reunion, The Naked Choir, The Choir: New Military Wives, Gareth's All Star Choir and The Big Performance. These programs are factual entertainment. Each show is different in it's own right but they are mainly distributed by Warner Bros and Broadcast on BBC 2. This does differ occasionally with broadcaster.
I have applied through Laura to do my placement here and she has passed on my contact details and CV to Kirsty who is the production manager. I have since been in touch with her and have booked my placement at Twenty Twenty TV for April 10-24th. As this falls over the Easter period, the offices are closed Easter Monday and Friday making my placement 8 days. I am going to see if I can book a couple of extra days at the studios in March to bring my placement time up to 2 weeks.
Kirsty has been working for Twenty Twenty since 2005 where she came in as an Assistant Director for continuing dramas such as Bad Lads Army and others for the BBC. She will be the person I go to throughout my placement here for anything that I need and to be given things to do. Below are the emails confirming my placement booking.
