Studio Production: Live TV Formats
There are many versitile formats that Live TV can take. In television, when we talk about format, we are talking about the style of the program. The formats that I will discuss in this blog are the main ones found on Live television programs.
Formats:
Activity Based
An activity based format is used for shows like 'The X Factor' and 'Britain's Got Talent' where an element of competition lies. It has lots of audience participation and this is what makes it active.

Panel Show
A panel show format means you have a panel of comedians or intelligence and they par take in a series of rounds where they have to answer questions. For example 'Mock the Week' or '8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown'. These panel shows are usually comedy shows, however there are more factual and serious panel shows broadcast in Day time TV. These are for example, 'Loose Women' 'Countdown' and 'Question Time'.

Dating Show
Most dating shows such as 'First Dates' are pre recorded, however some shows like 'Take Me Out' are recorded As Live. Using 'Take Me Out' as an example, the show is designed to encourage a large group of women to publicly decide whether or not they want to go on a date with the next man who comes down the elevator. Hosted by Paddy McGuinness, the show often has comedic moments.

Puzzle/Quiz Show
These shows usually involve members of the public attempting to win money or other prizes by working their way through a series of rounds involving various brain teasers or trivia questions. For example 'Catchphrase' and 'Five Gold Rings'.

All of these Live and As Live formats appear on our television screens every day. They have become a part of our society and without them British Television would not be the same. For our Live TV show 'The Big Movie Quiz', its format is very much a puzzle and quiz show. Using the knowledge we have of previous shows with the format of puzzle and quiz, we know what to aim for to make sure that it maintains this format.
