Studio Production: Live Studio Programme Research

For this unit we are required to create from scratch an original half hour television show that will be recorded 'As Live' in front of an audience. We will each have to pitch our ideas to a panel of five who will then decide which idea has the best likelihood to be produced for the unit. The creator of that idea will then be the producer.

I have researched into many live and as live television programmes and have taken inspiration from some of them to come up with my ideas.

When television was first born, the only format of programme was Live. This was because they didn't have the technology to record things. Now, Live has become it's very own genre and more and more television makers are choosing to go down this route for entertainment. The question is: Why? We don't need to film in Live time because we do have the technology to record and there is also so much more control over recorded television as opposed to Live. We choose to create Live entertainment because of the uncertainty. There is a constant undercurrent of 'anything can happen' that makes Live entertainment so enjoyable.

There are many Live programmes that have helped to inspire my ideas.  Below are some examples:

Tipping Point:

I like the concept of this show because it reminds me of when I was younger and going to the slot machines with Grandparents. I like how the contestant has to earn counters to put into the machine through answering lots of questions. I think this could work well for a Live show.

I like the energy this show has as you can hear the audience's reactions which adds to the atmosphere.  The presenter is very energetic and carries the show through and allows the funny moments to happen, making it less serious and a more enjoyable watch.

Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway:

I would like to use these elements from each show above to create a new and exciting concept for the Studio unit.
