Fiction Adaptation: Spoken Word Poetry Support
Nationwide have recently launched a campaign where they are using spoken word poets to help strip back their identity and connect with the people. Recent adverts on television show artists performing their poems in relevant locations to their poems, visually bringing them to life.
Nationwide's moto is "Building Society"and I believe that by having such personal spoken word poems for their adverts they are trying to say that they understand what it is that is most important to people. They are making a statement that it is important for people to be able to not worry about their banking because Nationwide are there to help you protect the thing you love whether it be your children or your family home.
I think that this form of spoken word poetry is still very personal for the artist but it is also being used to visually interpret the meanings of the poem in very different ways. Here, it is being used for promotional purposes, whereas when I adapt my poem, I will be adapting it to visually tell the story I believe is being told.
