Fiction Adaptation: Location Recce Minster Beach

I plan to shoot part of my film at a shipwreck site on Minster Beach. I went to the location to gather some pictures of the site and conduct a risk assessment for the shoot. The shipwreck itself is a very good location as it will allow for some really interesting shots. In particular, when shooting with the toy soldiers, the ship wreck will be huge in comparison making it look very artistic and symbolic of what the poem is telling the audience.

Here is the pictures from the recce:

As you can see from the photos, the shipwreck has been there for quite some time creating high risks as there are lots of sharp edges and dilapidated structures. The surrounding area is also quite a risk as it is incredibly slippy and the sand is very soft causing you to sink slightly. There is a risk of getting caught in the tide if it is in as the ships (there are multiple here as I found) fill up with the water.

Due to the time of year and the current climate the tide is often far out allowing a good few hours to shoot before it will come back in. My original plan was to have little boats floating in the sea coming into shore however, looking in some of the boats it will not only be easier, but will look more creative and significant if they are floating inside one of the shipwrecks such as this one:

This boat has a lot easier access to the inside which will allow me to film with more ease and less risk of being hurt by any sharp objects of the boat's structure.

Where the boat is situated, the rocks are very slimy and slippy from the water. There is a lot of muddy patches between rocks and the ground is quite loose. To avoid injury and to make the shoot easier, I will make sure to only take the minimal amount of equipment necessary. This will be a tripod and a DSLR as I don't need any sound equipment. Here is an example of the surrounding area:

As you can see there is an awful lot of green slime moss on many of the rocks which make it very slippy. Appropriate footwear will be essential.

After doing this location Recce I have decided it will be better to not have a cast member on the shoot as I don't think it will be necessary to the film. I will have the poem being read as a voice over. This is because it will take a long time to set up and also will reduce the risk of another person being injured.

Here are some general shots of the area I plan to film at:
