Digital News - Live Idea

We researched into different avenues that could allow us to do a potential live film however we found that most of the upcoming events were in 2017 or had already happened. We also found that the live piece that we were researching didn't really link to our news package story.

I went back over the research for our package story and found that a company called Groundwork are a very big link as to why these charities are receiving funding for their community projects to go ahead. I decided to investigate into their company alone and discovered that they do in fact have a great deal of "going's on". Here is a list of the all the projects that are currently underway that we could use to possibly shoot a 'live'.

As you can see, there are lots of different types of charities that are receiving funding. We decided to think about our branding being aimed at health and good things happening because of donations and we decided to focus on the projects from Groundwork that were mainly health charity based.

We decided that the Kent Sheds project in Gravesend would be the best story to go for out of all the projects above. This is because it is local and also deals with mental health, something that is often brushed under the carpet and deemed to be a bit of a taboo subject. After reading further into Kent Sheds on their website it looks to be a fantastic charity that makes mental health less of a problem for those suffering as they are able to share their thoughts with other like minded people doing activities such as restoring boats which the Gravesend Kent Shed group is doing. This is the one we are going to go with.

Ellie phoned Groundwork Kent and Medway to find out a bit more and to see if they would be interested in letting us come down and film a "live" with them. When she came off the phone she said the response was very welcome. They were very keen to talk to us and gave us advice on which particular 'shed' to take a look at. She spoke to Garnet from Groundwork and he put her in touch with Iain who runs the Kent Sheds Gravesend and gave us a possible date that we could film when the group would be meeting to restore the boats along the promenade.

We were asked to film on Tuesday 18th October at their facilities from 10am. We prepared some questions to ask and got Josh Jones to present for us. We would have hired outside of UCA however having a two working day turnaround before filming we thought it would be best to ask Josh as we know he can present well and he is reliable also.

Gravesend promenade is a public place however, we will be filming within the Kent Sheds facilities which is not a public place therefore we will not need to contact the council or Kent Film Office to get permission as we have permission from the facilities itself. The facility is fenced off from the public fountain side park and is underneath the Promenade Cafe. Here are a couple of pictures of the location.

We feel we are prepared for the shoot on Tuesday and we have our questions ready:

We will brief Josh on Tuesday and he is happy to use the questions as a guideline and engage in a conversation - like interview with Iain so that we can get as much information from him as possible without making him feel uncomfortable or too formal. As this is our "live" piece, we will only be filming for a maximum of three minutes. I'm looking forward to this shoot as it will be something different to what we've ever done before at UCA as we only get one chance to take the shot as we are filming "live" so its important that we address all of the situation before filming so that we are fully prepared for the take.
