Digital News - Fine Cut Viewing

After our fine cut viewing with Helen went really well. Helen was pleased with the progress made on the edit as we had accomplished everything she asked for.

She asked us to make a few minor changes to lift the production values even further. These things were tightening our "token sequence" as we had already got a good sequence through the reflections of the glass. By tightening this up it helped it to flow smoother and made the process much quicker and easier to understand.

We also decided to use different music for the graphics as our original was so intense with the heart beat monitor sound making it difficult to understand what our branding was really about. We researched into different types of music and discovered that most of the News background tracks were for more hard hitting news stories. We didn't seem to be getting anywhere with our search so we decided to stop and think of the connotations to do with our branding. We researched music into relaxing, inspiration and cheerful. We found that both relaxing and cheerful music were just a bit too upbeat and also too slow for our branding. We finally found a really good track under inspiration which seemed to fit quite well.

We used this track for our stings as well and done our best to make them the best they could be to fit the short amount of time it needed to fill. These still aren't perfect but with a few more tweaks I think they will fit nicely.

There was also some feedback about our Astons being in the wrong place. We decided to re design them so that they fitted to the person they were describing more. On reflection, when looking at Alison's introduction with her Aton, she was not quite in a third, making this difficult to place the Aston. I tackled this problem by changing the framing of the shot in post to try and make her in a third without causing pixelation. I feel that I have done this successfully enough for the Aston to sit comfortably.

Overall I am so proud of our final result because it has been very difficult to make it all work as an episode. After so much hard work, the finished result has come out better than I expected.
