Digital News - Branding Drafts and Development
As a group, we had a discussion about what we want our website to really focus on. We knew we wanted it to be about charities and what they do with their fundings however we felt that it was too vague and didn't really have a niché. We decided to focus on health charities and their donations and funding. This links in well to our story about Groundwork sponsoring Tesco Bags of Help to donate large sums of money to charities such as Demelza, who we are focusing on.
We then had to come up with a name. We came up with several that just didn't quite fit what we were looking for, such as Donation News, Health Charity News and Health Donations (HD) News. These were just a bit too plain for what we wanted and didn't seem memorable enough or "punchy" enough for the news channel. We ended up joking with names as we were really struggling to think of a good one that worked for everyone as well it working well for the website. During this stint of joke names, Ellie came up with 'Health Heroes'. We all decided that this was the perfect name because the alliteration of Health and Heroes helped to make it punchy and memorable and by using the word Hero it conveys that something good is happening within the charities. Having the word Health defines who the news channel is aimed at also, people who are interested in all types of health. We didn't want to restrict our channel to certain age categories as we hope to make the channel open to all types of health charities. This is why we have chosen to do a diverse package of charities such as a children's health charity and a mental health charity. This will then help us to appeal to all audiences interested in health because it's not targeted to just one form of health charity.
Niki was very happy to take control of the graphics as she has had lots of experience in making graphics before and expressed interest in making them. We discussed as a group colour schemes and logos. We originally thought perhaps reds and a heart beat as the logo. We all really liked the idea of the heart beat however felt that the colour scheme of reds would be too similar to that of the British Heart Foundation and also Tescos as we have them in our package, in terms of colour scheme more than the logo design.
We re thought and Niki suggested pinks and blues as its then diverse to all genders and age groups and we decided to go with a pastel forms of pink and blue because we didn't want the titles to be too distracting when watching the package news piece. The pale colours also look very appealing up against a white background. We chose a white background because with the theme of health, we thought of all of the connotations of 'health' and came up with clean, hygienic, hospitals etc. So white felt right because its quite clinical and definitely clean looking. Having a white background will also help us to make the logo stand out on the page.
Niki has finished some draft designs and they look really good!

We all really liked the designs however we thought that we could perhaps adapt the font as it looks a little to harsh. We would like o make it look a little softer and more inviting as the channel is about good heroic things that are happening to health charities because of good people and their donations. These are really good designs that we can definitely work with until we decide how to adapt the font to make it more suited for our branded news channel.
