Relevant Skills to make Documentaries!

I undertook the role of making the contacts and being very involved with the contributors who would star in our documentary therefore it was very important that I learnt how to communicate professionally and clearly with the contacts. Communication is something I have always found difficult as I don't have the confidence to be assertive and decisive. This is a skill I have developed throughout this unit as I feel much more confident when answering phone calls from interviewee's and the presenters too. For example, when we first found out that our original presenter Dave could no longer make the shoot, it was important that I relayed absolutely all of the information needed to the potential candidates that inquired about the piece we were making.

I have also developed skills in Transcripts which was something that I had never had the experience in working with before. At first, I found writing them out to the interview very difficult to get everything down as I'd continually forget what they had said however after a while I got the idea and managed to produce transcripts for the interviews. After that came the cutting down of the interviews which was very difficult to do because at that point we didn't really have much of an edit to base what we wanted them to say on. It took three separate transcript edits before we finally got the one finalised interviews. I am very pleased with how these turned out.

Learning these new skills has helped me to understand how a documentary is put together, especially in the editing stage. This is definitely something I am going to take further as I really have enjoyed learning how to use these skills and wish to develop them further.
