Plans & Scripting
Over the past few weeks, we have been in contact with both Jo, Leigh and Julie to organise some time to go over to film our sequences for our documentary. We have chosen to shoot on Wednesday the 13th and have Thursday the 14th as a back up day in case we need to re-shoot anything or go back for some pick ups that we may have missed on the Wednesday. We have booked the equipment out with Fergus who is happy to let us have a tripod, Sony Camera and a Go Pro which will allow us to obtain some very creative shots with the birds. We have made plans to get ariel shots of the birds flying in the sky using a drone which we have asked Josh help us with. We also plan to attach the Go Pro to the falconers glove so that when the bird comes to land, it will be a very dramatic shot causing the audience to see the birds in a way that is perhaps different to how they originally would see them. An idea we had was to put the video into slow motion to add to the magnificence of the bird, as we would be able to see in detail the birds wing span and the way that it moves when it comes to land.
We have come up with a draft script for the documentary which we will finalise after feedback and adaptations that we need to make. Further research is needed into what we want both the birds to do and what we want the interviewees to do. Once we have this further information, we can really push the script forward into more of a finalised piece. Here is what we have so far:
We have contacted Dave Chawner, a presenter/comedian/actor who has shown a keen interest in our documentary and has agreed to be our presenter. This is excellent news for us as it allows us to tell the narrative through him, giving the audience a person to follow throughout the discovery we are making. He has worked with UCA TVP students before which means he understands that this is a learning process and this not only eases the tension between us all but allows us to feel comfortable working with him and vice versa.

As you can see, we have a rough idea of what we want from this documentary however further research is ultimately needed mainly to help us figure out what GVs and Actualities we want for this piece.

We need to finalise the script and call sheets as soon as possible so that we can get them to Dave so he can learn and understand what the day will require of him and also allow him time to process any questions he may have regarding the whole day. We aim to shoot everything of Dave in one day, using voice overs to show cutaways of what he is talking about to get around the financial aspect of paying him for travel and lunch twice.
So far I feel that we are working well as a team and things are moving forwards as planned!
