My Idea

The idea I had was to do with Vultures being critically endangered in Africa. I got in contact with Jo Holmes, who cares for over 30 different types of birds at The Hawking Centre in Doddington Place Gardens, Sittingbourne. They are currently in the process of twinning a funding partnership in the organisation 'Vulpro' which Doddington staff are really involved in.

Doddington is a very beautiful place and has lots of opportunities for aesthetically pleasing cutaways and GVs. Situated on the grounds of a Victorian Mansion the gardens contain a lot of history that we could possibly explore throughout the documentary. The mansion is occupied by the owners of the gardens and they have a small tea room in the annex once used by the grounds keeper, which is open to the public to come and enjoy a sit down whilst overlooking the fantastic view of the gardens. Thousands of people each year come to see the gardens and enjoy the beautiful and ever changing scenery around them, creating a joyful and positive atmosphere on the estate.

The Hawking Centre has become a sponsor for 'Vulpro' along with 26 other sponsors across the globe. They have become a sponsor to help protect these animals from extinction as their population has started to dramatically decline. This could be a great opportunity for a story by looking further into Vulpro and how they plan on protecting these Vultures.

With The Hawking Centre being located in Doddington Gardens, we are able to see how they are helping the case of extinction and also film the birds that they have there to form the base of how the narrative could be told.

After speaking to Jo, she expressed her keen interest in the Documentary and has given full permission to shoot on the grounds with the birds if our group decides to shoot this documentary idea.
