Costume and Props - Self Portrait
Props I'm going to need for Self Portrait
I will need:
- A Ticking Clock
This needs to be a traditional looking school clock as I'd like it to look ordinary so that it doesn't draw attention away from the sound of the ticking as opposed to it being a really fancy clock that draws intrigue.
- A Pencil
I'm thinking that this could be a H.B pencil so that again it doesn't draw attention away from the sound. HB pencils are the most common and traditional of pencils and are often used the most so it wouldn't be drawing attention to the pencil as such but more the sound the pencil is making.
- A Bag of Crisps
These will be Walkers crisps as find these create a lot of lunch when being eaten. They will be cheese and onion flavour or ready salted as these flavours are the originals so people are familiar with the and the need for an exotic flavour isn't necessary.
- A Bathroom Mirror
The mirror should be clean and over the top of a bathroom sink. The bathroom doesn't need to be flashy, just an ordinary public toilet.
- Trees
Ideally I would like the trees to have greenery so that the sun streams through the leaves rather than just bare branches. Green branches are needed to show the shift in the mood of the film as green with sun shinning through represents peacefulness to me, which is what I want to show.
- A Guitar
The guitar will be acoustic and playing something soft but happy. I haven't decided whether I want a mash up of lots of different songs together or just one track yet. I will listen to different songs being played and visualise what works best.
- A Colourful Book
I am thinking about reading Alice in Wonderland as the cover of the book is very brightly coloured and it is a very imaginative book which is where the film has taken the audience (into my imagination.)
and
- A Wall Full of Photographs
The wall of photographs represent all of my memories that have made me happy and that I enjoy reflecting on when I am stressed or not feeling particularly positive that day. I would like to incorporate both this and the butterflies that connect to the wall to give a sense of freedom which highlights the contrast in the beginning of the film.
Costumes I Will Need For Self Portrait
I will wear converse or lace up plimsoles in blue or black with jeans and a black top. For the scenes where I am outside I will wear a dark green coat with the fluffy hood. I will wear this because i want to show that I am a student so there doesn't need to be anything particularly overt in what I am wearing however I have chosen to wear dark colours to represent or foreshadow how something in the mood of the film is unsettled.
For the happier scenes or the "memory scenes" I will change the colour of my top to a white jumper representing comfort and more of a positive aura. I will also wear brightly coloured odd socks. It important that they are odd as people who know me know that I always wear odd socks, even as a child because of an irrational fear that a pair will dye my feet the same colour as the socks. I'm over this fear now as it's ridiculous however it's stuck with me to wear odd socks and is strange if I'm seen in a pair. It's important for me to wear odd socks in the film as it represents a part of who I am which is what the films about.
