Filming My Project

After a lot of deliberation I had to resort to filming my project at my Nan and Grandad's house which had similar aspects to it that could be passed off as around the 80s era. For example the chairs that are featured look very dated allowing the location to be presumed as a care home.

Chairs on Location
Surprisingly, the chairs added the effect of the care home that I was looking for when directing my piece as they gave the film the 80s look that was needed. I also felt that the positioning of the charts and the table worked well together however I would have liked to have more space to be able to have been more creative with filming. For example getting more shots from different perspectives I believe would have added a both more drama and more impact to the sequence when it comes to editing the film together. This is something I will take into consideration next time I am creating a film.

I felt like I had let myself down a little once filming was over because I wasn't confident or comfortable when directing or filming. I think that if I had somebody else filming on the camera I would have felt more confident because I would have been confident that they would understand the shots I would like from my storyboards that I created and wouldn't have been so uncomfortable on the camera. I believe that my confidence in using the kit was my biggest downfall as it prevented me from experimenting and really striving to achieve something that might not necessarily have been what I had written down on paper. At the time I thought that if I had diverted from my original idea then it would let me down when I came to edit. However I realise now that it is important to experiment when filming and use what I have as my initial ideas as guidelines rather than something that is set in stone. Next time I will ensure that I ask someone else to be my camera man/woman and not be afraid to divert from my initial ideas. I believe that by making these changes I will be able to be more creative in the editing process. I will also aim to become more confident when using the kit by asking Fergus for some more tutorials with the kit.

Overall, filming my project has enhanced my learning through helping me to gain a clearer understanding of what it takes to actually create a 2 minute sequence. For example what it is like to work with  the actors and liaising with the sound operator to ensure that they aren't in the shot. This was an enjoyable experience over all and I aim to make major improvements the next time I am shooting!
