Evidence of Prep and Planning

Story Board Page 1

In preparation for Jimmy's War, I created a story board to help me organise my shots when I came to filming and editing.

I tried to make the shots detailed enough so that I could understand the style of the shot, whether it was a close up or long shot, and I decided that it would be beneficial to insert arrows with small directional notes by them if the camera was to follow a direction. For example in the first shot, the red arrow is indicating that the camera should do a slow pan to the right from the photograph, revealing the first character, Jimmy.

I have also inserted when the titles should appear as an edit point. By doing this, it has helped me to understand how the trailer will look once it has been edited and has given me a rough outline of what titles I need to include.

After using this storyboard as my outline to shoot, I realise that I haven't got a wide variety of shot sizes. They are mainly medium shots which doesn't portray the dramatic effect that a trailer should have. Next time that I film, I will ensure that I have much more coverage to make my film more interesting to the viewer.

After reviewing my feedback of my video, I understand how by following this story board it has made my film look more like the first two minutes rather than a trailer. It seems to lack the pace and drama which a trailer is supposed to have therefore I will re-edit and change my storyboard to give it more trailer qualities.

I also used a shoot script when filming. I created this by pulling out key sections of my script that I think told the story in a condensed form. Again I changed this when I came to re edit  by taking many of the lines out to make it shorter and more snappy, giving the film more of a trailer feel.
