Editing Practice
I decided that I needed to build my confidence when using Adobe Premiere Pro CC as I wanted to ensure that I would be able to confidently edit my trailer together knowing that I had given myself enough practice using the skills that Fergus had taught us.
In order to do this I downloaded the files "Delicious Peace", "Fairly Legal" and "I Think" from the workshops and I used these clips to create different editing sequences. I found this a very useful exercise as it enabled me to gain a clearer understanding of the tools and techniques that are needed to edit successful, dramatic pieces.
Here are some examples:
Fairly Legal
I decided to re-edit this scene because I felt that what I did could have been improved to showcase what I have learnt more. An example of these would be that the dialogue didn't match up completely when the actors were speaking and therefore looked out of sync. To change this I used the skills of overwrite, ripple and roll. These skills allowed me to edit together the character's dialogue to ensure that their lips moved in sync with what they are saying.
Delicious Peace
With Delicious Peace I attempted to add in titles and non diegetic sound as if it was something you would see on TV. I found that it was difficult adding in the voice over to finish the sequence as I had more footage than I had audio. Due to this I had to sift through what footage I thought was more relevant than others in order to make the sequence as informative as I could and also decide what order the audio should go in to make it flow as a piece of film and how it should end. After numerous attempts I found a way of doing this. Practicing this sequence through has helped me to gain confidence in using Premiere Pro CC.
I Think
This piece was different in the sense that all the dialogue was voice over. In some ways it made the sequence easier to edit as there were no conversations for me to match to the characters lips. However, I found making the sequence look dramatic and relate to the audio challenging. I found that it helped to organise the individual shots into bins because it helped me to know what shots were, where they were and how they worked in a sequence. I enjoyed editing this piece because I felt that I had become more confident with the tools and the process of editing felt smoother and more enjoyable as a whole.
Overall I feel that I have given myself enough practice using Adobe Premiere CC and am now ready and confident to edit my own footage once it has been filmed.
