Research - The Enfield Haunting
I have researched into some television programmes that were set in the 80s and found that "The Enfield Haunting" was the most helpful to look at.
Although it's story has nothing to do with my project, it has helped me to get a good idea of costume and how people lived in the 80s. This is important because my project involves a teenager who lives at home, so it is important for the audience to understand the character more through seeing how his family life is away from the actual meeting between himself and Jimmy (another character in my project). By showing the family life throughout writing the screenplay, it gives the audience an incline as to why his personality is how it is (rude and arrogant).
I have added the trailer below. As you can see from the trailer the colours are quite dark and there isn't a lot of light, however I think this is because of the story's theme and therefore isn't a true representation. The lighting has given me an idea for my project though. When Jimmy dies, the lighting could be darker and when the audience notices the change in the protagonist the lighting could become a lot brighter and warmer.
In the trailer the detective's costume is quite upper class, as is his house. I was more interested at looking at the kitchen's interior here as in my screenplay I hoped to set a scene in the kitchen on the protagonist's house. It was important to see how the interior looked in an upper class house as this would add important character detail to the way in which the protagonist and his family live.
Overall, I have found researching into "The Enfield Haunting" very helpful to my project when it comes to costume, props and how the characters lived in the 80s. I will be doing some more research into the 80s as a whole, as this television show isn't a completely realistic representation as it is trying to portray a certain theme that is different to the theme of my story.
